As the demand for mobile conversational multi-media-based services continues to grow, subscribers are looking to streaming video as an enhancement to their voice experience. The combination of voice and video, referred to as Video IVR or Interactive Voice and Video Response (IVVR), is an exciting new technology that combines the simplicity of traditional Voice IVR with the advanced video capabilities offered by 3G handsets.

OmniVox3D provides a single unified browser-based platform for designing, developing and delivering mobile voice and video services. This combination significantly reduces the time it takes to bring new services to market, reducing overall return-on investment. Additionally, the multi-service delivery capability of OmniVox3D means that a one-time carrier-grade investment provides a true platform for multiple services, including prepaid video, video mail/messaging, video conferencing, video ringback and Video IVR/IVVR.

As a standards-based SIP Application Server, OmniVox3D supports a variety of industry standard protocols, including 3G-324M for video, MRCP for speech, and MSML/MOML, MSCML and VXML for interfacing to media servers. Additionally, as OmniVox3D is IMS compliant, it will continue to evolve with the IMS architecture, securing investments in application development.

Since the interactive applications are delivered to the subscriber over a standard 3G video call, using existing, mandatory 3G standards, this means that all OmniVox3D Video IVR applications work the same on all handsets. One of the great advantages placing all the application logic on the OmniVox3D Application Server is that it potentially eliminates the need to repurpose content and applications for different handsets, making the handset seen as the ultimate thin client. OmniVox3D Video IVR takes the intelligence away from the handsets, and puts it back in the network, increasing the number and type of applications a Service Provider can offer.

Additionally, because OmniVox3D uses standard video calls as the delivery medium, the subscribers do not need to download or install anything on their handsets to access the applications. From a compatibility point of view, this means that OmniVox3D application need to be developed only once to run on all 3G handsets. This is in marked contrast to delivering applications as Java applets which can require over 200 different builds to cater to all the different handsets available on the market.
