for targeting a greater global market.

SHERMAN OAKS, CA, September 17, 2002 - APEX Voice Communications, a leading supplier of enhanced services and billing solutions to network service providers and enterprises worldwide, announced that it has enhanced its speech recognition offering by integrating SpeechWorks International's (Nasdaq: SPWX) OpenSpeech Recognizer (OSR) speech recognition software into its OmniVox® Intelligent Call/Media Processors.

"With the addition of SpeechWorks, we can now offer our developer community around the world more options when developing speech-based applications," said Elhum Vahdat, Executive Vice President of APEX Voice Communications. "SpeechWorks is one of a handful of speech recognition companies that has taken the time to understand the enhanced services market where a lot of our customers sell into."

By integrating SpeechWorks into OmniVox's Service Creation Environment, developers now have the flexibility to create a greater variety of voice-driven wireline and wireless applications more quickly and efficiently. Often referred to as "hands-free" and "eyes-free" services, speech-based services with OmniVox can be used for a variety of services to make interacting with a system more user-friendly and natural.
