APEX Voice Communications Announces General Availability of APEX Prepaid System for Windows
Windows Version Offers Easier Administration, Integration and High Availability
SHERMAN OAKS, CA, September 8, 2004 - APEX Voice Communications, a leading supplier of enhanced services and real-time billing solutions to carriers, telecommunications service providers and enterprises worldwide, today announced the general availability of its APEX Prepaid System for Windows 2000 and XP. The APEX Prepaid System is a carrier-grade solution scalable to hundreds of millions of minutes per month in either a centralized or distributed architecture. Similar to the APEX Enhanced Switch (IVR/Switching), APEX Prepaid supports Microsoft® I/O Completion Port (I/OCP) technology and Intel® NetStructure™ telephony boards for the latest in high-density technologies. APEX Prepaid also supports NEC's high-availability fault tolerant servers without any loss of efficiency.
Integrated with RADIUS Servers (i.e. Cisco) or the APEX Enhanced Switch, the highly scalable APEX Prepaid System provides for real-time call rating capabilities, allowing carriers and service providers to offer a range of VoIP and TDM services including prepaid calling, wireless prepaid, prepaid residential (via ISUP loopback), member services and support services. Key features include rating in different currencies, special rating methods, card activation and expiration schemes, service access codes, restricted calling times and numbers, recurring charges and call routing capabilities.
APEX Prepaid is built on a relational database with SQL providing extensive reporting capabilities and allowing for the integration of third-party reporting tools such as Crystal Reports. Additionally, as a platform for worldwide availability, APEX Prepaid supports a wide variety of telephony protocols (i.e. T1, E1, VoIP) and signaling protocols (i.e. SS7, ISDN, H.323, SIP).
"APEX has relied heavily on UNIX variants for the last fifteen years to address the carrier market. However, with Windows now a leader in administration and integration, together with high availability platforms from NEC, Windows is now a carrier-grade platform," said Elhum Vahdat, Executive Vice President of APEX Voice Communications. "Additionally, our ability now to offer a single-box solution with our APEX Enhanced Switch allows us to market a very cost effective prepaid platform to complement our established position in the higher end of the market."
As carrier-grade solutions, the APEX Prepaid System and APEX Enhanced Switch support Microsoft's I/O Completion Port technology, increasing overall system performance and the number of calls a system can handle. Developed to handle large web and mail servers that receive thousands of simultaneous hits, both APEX platforms rank as one of the highest performing rating servers and switches of their class. Additionally, by supporting NEC's high availability fault tolerant servers, the APEX platforms deliver a new level of continuous availability for carrier-grade applications. With maximum uptime and fully integrated, redundant components that virtually eliminate any single point of failure, these NEC servers have no interruption in processing, no loss of performance, and no loss of data.
