LDAP / IMAP
LDAP and IMAP are IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standards used for sending electronic mail (e-mail) worldwide. LDAP is a directory service that allows for user lookup and authentication, while IMAP is an internet mail application protocol that allows for clients to access server-based message stores.
The LDAP/IMAP Module for the OmniVox3D Application Server Software provides developers with the ability to interface applications to LDAP-capable directory servers and IMAP4-capable message storages. Through direct access to e-mail, fax and voice messages centrally stored in an IMAP repository server, Service Providers can deliver robust unified messaging solutions based on standards-based components and a truly open architecture. Enterprises also can take advantage of the LDAP/IMAP Module by migrating to an overall more productive messaging platform.
The LDAP/IMAP Module minimizes the expense of implementing unified messaging services by building on the investment already made in an existing e-mail storage infrastructure. The LDAP/IMAP Module allows service providers to either implement the service-ready APEX Messaging System or to develop their own customized messaging applications. The net result is that subscribers have multimodal access to e-mail, fax and voice mail messages through various client tools including web mail, e-mail client programs, IP phones, mobile phones and PDAs.

The flexible and open architecture of the OmniVox3D software coupled with the LDAP/IMAP functionality allows Service Providers to easily develop new, or upgrade existing, revenue generating services for their subscriber base. By providing LDAP/IMAP functionality, OmniVox3D provides a standards-based interface into Directory Access servers and Message Store servers, removing the need to acquire new equipment, therefore, reducing initial costs for implementing and deploying services.
The LDAP/IMAP module allows service providers and enterprises to provide new services, or upgrade existing services such as:
- Unified Messaging (voice, e-mail and fax)
- Wireless E-Mail & E-Mail Reading
- Speech Enabled Voice Mail and E-Mail
- Enterprise Directory Services
- Customer Name and Address Capture
- E-Mail Notification
The LDAP/IMAP module for OmniVox3D enables service providers and enterprises a simple and cost-effective means to add voice to an existing e-mail infrastructure.
Customers may choose to deploy the APEX Messaging System for voice mail or unified messaging services or simply use the LDAP/IMAP Module to develop powerful messaging applications on the OmniVox3D platform. The combination of the LDAP/IMAP Module with Automatic Speech Recognition and Text-to-Speech technologies provides Service Provider with a number of unique and competitive services such as speech enabled voice mail and e-mail reading applications.
