Python is an open source, dynamic object-oriented development language which is often used to create web services. Many of the leading companies on the internet have standardized on Python as it offers strong integration support with many languages and tools, and comes with standard libraries which can be quickly learned.

Python's simple syntax emphasizes readability, reducing the cost of program maintenance. It supports modules and packages which encourage program modularity and code reuse. The Python interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form without charge for all major platforms, and can be freely distributed.

Enabling Python with the OmniVox3D Application Server allows for the development of voice and video enhanced services completely in Python. The Python integration resides in OmniVox3D, so once these services are ready for testing and deployment, OmniView’s OAM&P tools are used to instruct OmniVox3D to direct incoming calls to the Web server for processing. OmniVox3D then runs and manages these services, as it provides for all the media commands needed to complete an IVR-type of session.

The flexible and open architecture of OmniVox3D, coupled with the Python language functionality, allows Service Providers to easily develop new, or upgrade existing, revenue-generating services. By providing Python functionality, OmniVox3D provides a standards-based interface into existing networks reducing initial costs for implementing and deploying services. For new implementations, this architecture allows IVR platforms to be internet ready upon the launch of a new service with the same infrastructure.
