APEX VOICE COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES GENERAL AVAILABILITY OF OMNIVOXML™ MEDIA GATEWAY

- Single Platform Provides Media Gateway, Media Server and VXML Gateway Functionalities -

VON FALL 2006, BOSTON, MA, September 12, 2006 – APEX Voice Communications, a worldwide supplier of Application Servers and Multi-Service Platforms for enhanced services, unified messaging, real-time billing solutions, and value-added IP multimedia services, today announced the availability of its OmniVoXML Media Gateway as a standalone product. APEX has been delivering OmniVoXML as a component of the APEX Multi-Service Platform (APEX MSP™) for several years now, but as a standalone product, it is now able to interpret call flows created in third-party application servers, in addition to those created in the award-wining OmniView®, the browser-based Service Creation/OAM&P Environment of OmniVox3D®. Key features include support for SNMP, MRCP (Media Resource Control Protocol) and an extensive array of protocols.

OmniVoXML is a multi-purpose Media Gateway, VXML Gateway and Media Server, designed specifically for deploying voice and speech-enabled applications in VoIP, TDM and SS7 networks. OmniVoXML supports industry-standard VoiceXML 2.0 and 2.1 and additional extensions based on XML, allowing basic and advanced IVR, outbound dialing, conferencing and information collection. Built around web technologies, OmniVoXML is ideal for high volume services requiring scalability, reliability and flexibility and is unique because of the extensive Operations, Administration, Maintenance and Provisioning (OAM&P) tools available in the browser-based OmniView.

The five sub-systems of OmniVoXML (see diagram) each perform a specific set of tasks that together make OmniVoXML one of the leading platforms for delivering calls to application servers. The sub-systems include: Telephony Server – provides the hardware and software interfaces to the IP and TDM networks for call processing), includes a complete SIP stack and is RFC 3261 compliant; Media Server – provides all of the media processing and services and supports MRCP for multi-vendor Automated Speech Recognition (ASR) and Text-To-Speech (TTS) support; SIP Session Manager – Back-to-Back User Agent (B2BUA) and proxy server enabling a SIP network connection to OmniVox3D and connection to third-party media servers; Signaling Gateway –interface to the SS7 network with support for ISUP, ISUP Loop-Back and WIN/CAMEL solutions; and VXML Voice Browser – loads and executes VXML scripts from static files or the Web, and allows applications from VXML compatible third-party application servers to run on the OmniVoXML.

"Because OmniVoXML is fully SIP-enabled, it can be combined with any VoiceXML-compatible application server, including OmniVox3D, to provide applications with advanced user dialogs and speech processing," said Elhum Vahdat, executive vice president of APEX Voice Communications. "Additionally, because of our strong belief in open architectures, the Media Server sub-system may now be deployed with third-party application servers."

A key feature of OmniVoXML includes the support for SNMP traps, which are sent when error conditions are present. These conditions include E1/T1 failures, resource group failures and loss of communication with other components. Also, OmniVoXML support a wide variety of signaling protocols, such as VoIP (SIP, SIP Proxy Server, SIP Registration. H.323), TDM (T1/E1, ISDN, CAS, etc.) and SS7, including SS7 Loopback and SS7/IN, in conjunction with the Signaling Gateway.

Another key feature is the support for the industry-standard MRCP technology. Since OmniVoXML is built on an open architecture, it supports MRCP for third-party Speech Technologies, such as ASR and TTS. Now, Service Providers and Enterprises alike are able to rapidly access any third-party Speech Technology compatible with MRCP. This integration gives developers the power to decrease implementation times while still ensuring application robustness through multi-vendor choices.
